Tim Muir is responsible for business development and third-party management agreements for TPG Hotels & Resorts.
Muir has been a leader in the hospitality, franchise sales/development, and food/beverage business for over 36 years. He grew up spending his summers in Atlantic City, NJ, where he worked at Bally’s Hotel Casino and Harrah’s Hotel Casino. In 1987 he graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas Hotel School. Since 2014, Muir has served on the board of directors of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Hotel School. He also studied at the École hôtelière hotel and culinary school in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Muir started his professional career in operations, working in New York City, Boston, and Atlanta before transitioning into Franchise Sales in the Northeast for Days Inn of America. In 1990, Muir relocated to Los Angeles, CA, and was responsible for Franchise Sales of Holiday Inn Worldwide in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. In 1991, Holiday Inn Worldwide launched Holiday Inn Express. From 1991-1995, Muir was recognized as Salesmen of the Year at Holiday Inn Worldwide. In 1994, he was promoted to Vice President of the Western region of Franchise Sales for Holiday Inn Worldwide, managing the franchise sales offices of Chicago, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Kansas City, and Los Angeles. In October of 1995, he joined industry icon Michael Leven in the U.S. Franchise Systems. During his 13 Years at USFS, the company grew from 18 open hotels to 525 open hotels. In 2008, the company was sold to Wyndham Worldwide. At Wyndham, Muir was appointed Senior Vice President of Franchise Sales in charge of all new construction of limited-service, extended-stay, and full-service hotels, managing a sales team of 20 people. From 2013-2016, he served as Senior Vice President of Franchise Sales at Choice Hotels, in charge of Comfort Suites, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Mainstay, Suburban, and the upscale boutique collection of Ascend Hotels. Muir managed a team of 25 salespeople and five vice presidents. In January of 2017, he was named Chief Development Officer at Focus Brands. Muir and his team sold 2000 franchises and opened 1200 new locations during his time at Focus Brands. Focus Brands has 6500 restaurant locations/units in 55 countries worldwide.
Muir’s core strengths are his integrity, experience, and his accountability to meet and exceed company goals. He has invested 30 years of his career building his personal relationships with the Franchise Development Teams at IHG, Hyatt, Marriott, Wyndham, Choice, Hilton, and Best Western. In addition, he has hundreds of close relationships with various owners and investors within the industry.
